The challenge of cloning the Holy Grail of cryptography.
Since 2005, more and more publications and books have been appearing on the unfathomable mystery of the Voynich manuscript. One of them fell into the hands of the editors of SILOÉ, Juan José García and Pablo Molinero who, attracted by the spell as soon as they learned of the existence of the manuscript, did not hesitate to begin the process of obtaining the execution rights for an unabridged facsimile edition. Shortly afterwards, they contacted Yale University in the USA, which holds the original in its famous Beinecke Library of Rare Books and Manuscripts, and travelled to New Haven to see the original. The editors say that, unsurprisingly, the experience of leafing through the original was truly magical.
Then began the long and unexpectedly arduous process of obtaining the publishing rights, which would culminate in late 2015. […]
President Sánchez’s impressive gift
on his visit to Pope Francis.
At Siloé we feel really proud and honoured by the fact that the Presidency of the Government has chosen one of our facsimiles as a gift for Pope Francis. Specifically, the Book of Hours of Bishop Fonseca, a Ghent-Bruges jewel from the San Carlos Seminary in Zaragoza.
It is a splendid, richly illuminated manuscript from the great library of the Marquis of Roda (Zaragoza 1708 – La Granja 1782), later donated to the San Carlos Seminary.
It belongs to that extraordinarily large group of so-called «Books of Hours» which would have an enormous and unforeseen success and constitute an authentic social, artistic and religious phenomenon in the 14th and 15th centuries.
It belonged to Bishop Juan Rodríguez de Fonseca, one of the most important and influential figures in the Spain of his time, both in matters of Church and State. […]
National Prize of the Ministry of Culture for .
«Life and miracles of Saint Louis»
At the end of November 2020 we received a call from Ms María José Gálvez, Director General of Books, to inform us that the First National Prize of the Ministry of Culture for the Best Edited Books, Facsimile Modality, had been awarded to our replica of the codex LIFE AND MIRACLES OF SAINT LOUIS kept in the National Library of France.
It is a great honour that this is already our EIGHTEENTH award from the Ministry of Culture and that it also coincides practically in time with the moment when the Government of Spain chose a facsimile of our brand to give to Pope Francis during the visit to Rome by President Sanchez (the beautiful Book of Hours of Bishop Fonseca).
Last year the National Prize went to our edition of the famous Sketchbook of Villard de Honnecourt (the only treatise on architecture in the Middle Ages). […]
Juan José García and Pablo Molinero, from Editorial Siloé,
«Outstanding» Award in the category of Publishing Work
Juan José García and Pablo Molinero, from Editorial Siloé, winners of the Outstanding Award in the Publishing Work category.
The heads of the Siloé publishing house, Juan José García and Pablo Molinero, have received the «Fuera de Serie» (Outstanding) Award in the Publishing Work category. An award promoted by the lifestyle magazine Expansión, which in its sixth national edition «recognises the careers of outstanding people in their professions who are an example to society».
The promoters of the publishing house from Burgos were in charge of collecting an award that they receive with «great pride» in recognition of «the work of so many years» in the publishing world in Spain and in much of the world. This work has always been closely linked to their homeland, Burgos, where they have the headquarters of the publishing house that has produced, among others, the famous facsimile of the Voynich Manuscript.
Last night, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid hosted the Fuera de Serie Outstanding Awards gala, which highlights «outstanding characters of the year». This is an initiative with which Expansión’s lifestyle magazine wishes to recognise the talent of those people who have reached the top of their careers and who are an example for society in Architecture, Art, Dance, Editorial Work, Interior Design, Fashion, Gastronomy, Oenology, Sport and Philanthropy.
